About Joe Faris: Fashion Designer, Project Runway Alum and Metro-Detroiter
Faris has been a key figure in helping put a spot-light on the apparel industry in Metro-Detroit with the creation of Motor City Design Co., and his current label, Joe Faris™ Detroit. The collection is “Born in Detroit” and “U.S.A. Made” with an industrial attitude and a mix of Motor City influences. Joe designs and builds products with high-fashion elements that showcase classic American elegance.

A former Project Runway Season 5 contestant, Joe made it to the Top 6 out of 16 Designers which granted him a showing at Bryant Park New York Fashion Week Project Runway Season 5 Finale Fashion Show.
Faris started his career as a denim and parachute pant designer in the late eighties for Bugle Boy while still studying at Parsons School of Design in New York. Over his 30 year career Joe has designed for several high-profile fashion brands including Ralph Lauren, Perry Ellis, Donna Karen, Pelle Pelle, Double D Ranch, Schott NYC, and Kid Rock’s brand Made In Detroit.
In 2009 Joe moved closer to his goal of a helping put a spot-light on the garment industry in Metro-Detroit Detroit by co-founding the annual premier fashion event Fashion In Detroit.
Joe is passionately committed to helping support and continues to maintain an active role in Detroit’s local fashion community while being an advocate of “the city that put the World on Wheels”.
